A group was formed in Rosewood in 1979 and the first meeting was held at the
Rosewood State Primary School. Training commenced at the Scout Den then transferred to the State Primary
School until 1985 when, with the help of the Moreton Shire Council, a new building was built. Members
fundraised to extend, fit out and furnish the inside of the headquarters. Rosewood purchased a second-hand
rescue truck in 1985, and an additional vehicle in 1989, a second-hand Toyota Troop Carrier.
Current membership is 14 active and 6 reserve.
The group is used locally in storm damage, flooding, lighting of traffic accidents and other scenes, searches,
school education and community projects.
During flooding when the town and area are isolated, this group ferries medical and other supplies across the
flooded river and creeks by floodboat. They also assist the Rosewood Queensland Ambulance Service with the
transportation of patients. A supply of food is kept on hand at
all times to provide emergency feeding for stranded people.
With the
assistance of the Ipswich City Council the Troop Carrier was upgraded and an additional 2.4 tonne truck was
purchased. In 1997 the group, through some intense fundraising, built a lighting trailer to assist at traffic
accidents and provide emergency power in the old aged home. The rescue trailer has been converted to
accommodate both rescue and storm damage equipment.
The members train on a weekly basis at this depot, and fund raise locally to buy extra equipment thus ensuring
that the local community has a continuing interest in the group. |
