HISTORY

1997

The Ipswich City SES Cadet Unit was formed in January, 1997 with a Local Cadet Advisory Committee. This committee consists of the SES Local Controller as the chair person and other members are the Cadet Coordinator, a representative from SES, QAS, QRFS, QPS, a State High School Principal, a member of a Service Club, Ipswich City Council Deputy Works Manager and an Ipswich City Council Councilor. The committee is very active and meets three to four times a year.

2003

The SES scheme changed focus in the year 2003 and became the Emergency Services Cadet Scheme with more involvement from the Fire and Ambulance Services.

2007

Joining
New Cadets must be in Grade 8 and under the age of 16 years. We hold an Information and sign up night at the beginning of each year, this year it will be held on the 2nd February.

Training
We start 2007 off with 40 cadets from last year and hope to have an intake of 20 new cadets when school starts again at the end of January.

They progress through the first year and continue until the three year program of training is completed. Selected cadets are then invited to return as Assistant Leaders and assist with training of the younger cadets. Others return as fourth year cadets for more advanced training.

We train every Friday night through out the year (except for school and public holidays.) We try to hold a training camp during each school holiday period and at least two all night exercises a year.  Cadets are expected to attend these activities.

As part of their development program the third year and Assistant Leaders plan several fund raising and fun events through the year.
