Outback Trip 2007
(28 September - 6 October 2007)

During the September school holidays, 14 Ipswich ES Cadet together with 6 leaders went on a trip to the outback.

The adventure started from Ipswich and covered 3000km in 9 days. We visited all towns along the way including Dalby, Chinchilla. Miles, Roma, Mitchell, Morvan, Augathella, Tambo, Blackall, Barcaldine, Longreach, Alpha, Anakie, Rubyvale, Emerald, Springsure, Rolleston, Carnarvon, Injune and then home.

We stayed two days at a caravan park on a property near Roma which is also a museum with thousands of old items of history. From here we went to Blackall staying with the very friendly Blackall SES, thanks everyone. Then on to Barcaldine where we made base camp for a trip to Longreach. We paid a visit to the Hall of Fame and QANTAS. Both were extremely interesting. It was then on to Rubyvale to try our luck fossicking for sapphires and hoping to find a stone which would pay for the trip, but no such luck and after a visit to a working Ruby mine it was on to Carnarvon.

Carnarvon is a very beautiful place and is highly recommended for a visit. We stayed at a nearby camping ground and walked over 30km looking at the wonderful sights. Towards the end of the second day a storm put a damper on the trip wetting everything in 5 out of the 7 tents thus cutting short our trip by one day.

Although the trip ended not the way it was planned it was one of learning, bonding and excitement and will be done again sometime in the future.

Get To Know You 2007
(13 - 15 April 2007)

The Ipswich ES Cadet Group held their annual 'Get to Know You Camp' at Wivenhoe Dam recently.

In all 73 people participated. This was made up of 47 cadets from Ipswich, 12 from the Boonah group (they were invited to participate) and 14 adult leaders and support staff. The camp was held over 3 days in dry dusty conditions.

Over the 3 days cadets had to participate in a 'getting to know you' scenario which included fun games and games where you have to rely on your team mates. On the second day they had to build a raft and get to the other side of a dam, do moulage and first aid and do team leader activities. On the last day the Rural Fire Brigade from Mt. Forbes came and showed the cadets firefighting  techniques and held firefighter games. Although hot and dusty all said they couldn't wait till next camp.

Wet'nWild
(3 December 2006)

Thirty two cadets and eight leaders from the Ipswich cadet group spent a great day at Wet'nWild recently.

Although it was a very hot day (which once again finished with a thunder storm) all who attended had a great time. We were located behind three new rides in the park so we didn't have far to travel for the fun.

To keep up with the cricket season our Aussie let the cadets paint his bald head. Everyone is looking forward to next year.

Cadets Go Sailing
(19 November 2006)

24 Ipswich Cadets spent a day on the Brisbane River at West End compliments of the South Brisbane Sailing Club. They learnt about water safety and a little about sailing boats.

Two floodboats from the Unit and two sailing boats helped out on the day. Cadets were placed in teams and all had a go at sailing and had a ride in the floodboat.

The day was a huge success and we thank the South Brisbane Sailing Club for putting on the day and the Ipswich SES Unit floodboat crew for instructing the cadets.
